April is Money Smart Month!
The Kids Essay Contest offers a great opportunity to start saving for the future! Money Smart Month events and activities are designed to develop the knowledge and skills people of all ages need to help manage money. The Kids Essay Contest offers scholarship opportunities for youth in grades 6-8 who go to school or live in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis region – this also includes the collar counties in Illinois. Kids are invited to submit an essay of 500 words or less in response to this year’s essay contest question that is focused on financial education.
The deadline to participate is April 17, 2023. Three finalists will be awarded scholarships of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 and will be notified of an award during the first week of May. The top three winners will also be featured on the Money Smart St. Louis website and the child with the first-place essay will be named the “2022 Money Smart Kid”. All kids who participate will receive a certificate of achievement.
In addition, each essay contest participant has the opportunity to select a non‐profit organization (i.e. school, specific classroom or community organization) to receive a $500 award if their essay is selected as one of the top three finalists.
